FBR dismisses fake notification about income tax deadline extension

The Federal Board of Revenue has called a notification circulating on social media about an extension to the income tax filing deadline "fake". Dawn reported that the board's spokesperson stated on X that no such circular had been issued.

The fake notification had claimed the deadline was extended to October 15, as it was last year, citing requests from trade bodies and taxpayers. The FBR clarified the deadline for the tax year 2026 remains September 30.

Trade bodies and professionals had sought an extension, citing delays in the issuance of return forms and heavy online traffic as hurdles. The FPCCI president had urged the government to extend the deadline to October 31.
