FBR integrates blockchain platform for verifying trade documents

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has integrated its customs administration with a blockchain-based validation platform called ValidAP, according to Dawn. The platform, developed and hosted by Hong Kong Customs, has been connected through Pakistan's Single Window system.

The integration follows a memorandum of understanding signed between Pakistan and Hong Kong customs in May. The system allows customs authorities to verify the authenticity of electronic trade documents, such as health certificates and export permits, without needing the original files.

It uses cryptographic hash verification to detect any alterations to a registered document, aiming to prevent tampering and forgery. The FBR states this will reduce reliance on paper-based checks and speed up the validation process for trade consignments.
