Lahore court grants police physical remand of woman in Azeri rape case

A Lahore judicial magistrate granted police a three-day physical remand of a woman in connection with a case involving the alleged gang-rape of an Azeri national, Dawn reported. The 20-year-old Azerbaijan citizen was reportedly attacked by three men in a rented flat near Raiwind between September 25 and 26.

The complainant had named two women she met before the alleged assault. Police have already arrested two men, who were sent on a six-day physical remand earlier.

During the hearing, a prosecutor argued it was the woman suspect's first physical remand and she could be kept in jail. Her counsel contended their relationship was only friendship and that physical remand for a woman was not permissible except in murder or robbery cases, adding nothing needed to be recovered from her.
