Tax bodies seek extension as FBR reports high filing volume

Trade bodies and professionals are requesting an extension to the September 30 deadline for filing tax returns. According to Dawn, they cite delays in the issuance of return forms and heavy online traffic as major hurdles.

The Federal Board of Revenue has reported an overwhelming response, with 5.181 million returns filed by September 29. This is an increase of 45.8 percent from the tax year 2025.

The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry are among those asking for more time. The statutory deadline is historically extended, often until the end of October, but penalties for late filing were substantially increased in the last budget.
