Trump says AI executives agree to self-regulate with 'morally binding' accord

US President Donald Trump said executives from leading artificial intelligence firms have signed a 'morally binding' commitment to self-regulate the technology, according to a report by Dawn. He announced the accord after a White House meeting attended by top figures from companies including Nvidia, OpenAI, and Anthropic.

President Trump, who opposes formal constraints on AI development, said the executives would 'police themselves'. He also stated he would rename the technology 'super intelligence' via an executive order.

Separately, OpenAI has launched a new, cheaper AI model called GPT-6.1 Sol. This follows the company's decision to scrap an upgraded version, GPT-6.1 Astra, which it said frequently ignored instructions.
