UK airbase scare investigation finds petrol, not explosives

A UK probe into a suspected bomb plot at Royal Air Force Fairford, an airbase used by the United States, found no explosives. Police said a "quantity of petrol" was recovered from vehicles seized near the base in southwest England, Dawn reported.

National Counter Terrorism Policing head Laurence Taylor confirmed no improvised explosive devices were found. Police were called to the base on Sunday after a resident reported suspicious vans, leading to a village evacuation and a major incident declaration.

Five London-based Britons arrested early Sunday on explosives and terror offences were released on bail Monday, a move criticised by Washington. British media reported a member of the group had called police about an hour before a local farmer alerted officers.
