FPCCI criticises FBR actions and high power tariffs

Business leaders have criticised what they call coercive actions by tax authorities against industrialists. They also said power tariffs must be brought in line with other regional countries to ensure economic growth.

The criticism came from senior officials of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) speaking at receptions in Hyderabad this week, as reported by Dawn. FPCCI patron in chief S.M. Tanvir stated that electricity costs the business community 17 cents per unit, compared to seven cents in other regional nations.

Tanvir said this disparity made Pakistani businesses uncompetitive. He urged the government to address issues of multiple taxes, institutional oversight, and the fuel crisis, and criticised independent power producers for undermining Pakistan's future.
