Peshawar High Court calls attorney general over delayed NFC award

The Peshawar High Court has directed the National Finance Commission to respond to a petition and has put the attorney general for Pakistan on notice, according to Dawn. The petition challenges the non-issuance of a new National Finance Commission Award.

The case was filed by former provincial minister Taimur Saleem Khan Jhagra. He alleges a constitutional failure by the federal government to meet financial obligations, particularly for the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas.

The petition argues that significant changes, including the merger of FATA with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the 2017 census, necessitate a revised award. The court has fixed November 11 for the next hearing.
