FIFA claims UEFA is spreading misinformation to access World Cup documents

FIFA has accused UEFA of conducting a 'misinformation' campaign in its attempt to access documents concerning a shelved plan by FIFA President Gianni Infantino to sell parts of the World Cup, according to Dawn. The accusation was made in FIFA's response to a court case in Florida where UEFA is trying to force the handover of the papers.

The world governing body alleges UEFA's legal effort is also an attempt to 'influence' next year's FIFA presidential election. UEFA, the European body representing nations like Spain and Germany, has led opposition to Mr Infantino and called for his removal.

FIFA's court filing states UEFA makes 'numerous false or misleading statements', including that Mr Infantino sought personal profit from the so-called FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal. That plan, which would have let private investors buy stakes in a subsidiary running major events, was shelved after a backlash in July.
